Refrigerator Maintenance 101: How to Replace Sub-Zero Water Filter
We get it. Replacing the water filter is a simple enough task that it’s easily forgotten or postponed. Or maybe performing any maintenance on your Sub-Zero refrigerator feels intimidating. Our information and installation tips take the stress out of how to replace Sub-Zero water filter. Most importantly, they remind us of how significant it is to have clean, filtered drinking water.
Why It’s Important to Replace Sub-Zero Water Filters
Your Sub-Zero water filter strains impurities from your home’s tap water source. These impurities can range from mineral fragments to chemical deposits and other small particles. Over time, they can build up in your filter’s fine mesh screen, leaving it unable to do its job. These contaminants are then transferred to you through the refrigerator’s ice and drinking water.
While many refrigerator control panels display a filter icon when it needs replacement, you may wonder how long does a sub-zero water filter last? We recommend replacing it every six months and especially if you notice these signs:
- Water or ice has an unpleasant smell
- Refrigerator water tastes bad
- Ice maker ice tastes bad
- The water pressure seems low
How to Replace Sub-Zero Push-In Water Filter
Knowing how to replace Sub-Zero water filter push-in model is as easy as knowing where to find it. Open the refrigerator’s bottom grill and tilt the grill frame towards you to access the filter. The rest can be accomplished with these simple steps:
- Detach the filter by first pushing the cartridge in then pulling it out.
- Remove the new filter from its package and take off the plastic caps. Sub-Zero recommends using their particular brand of filter for optimal fit and performance.
- Position the new filter’s cartridge so that its locking tabs line up with the refrigerator’s filter compartment.
- Gently push in the cartridge until you hear a click.
- Give the cartridge a slight pull to make sure it’s secure.
- Press and hold the filter reset button for 5 seconds to reset the filter’s monitoring system.
- To clear the water lines of impurities, dispose of the first two batches of ice and two minutes worth of filtered water.
How to Replace Sub-Zero Twist-In Water Filter
If your refrigerator has a twist-in filter model, it can be found behind the bottom grill in the same location as the push-in model. Another possible location is inside the refrigerator, behind a small panel at the top of the interior. Consult your owner’s manual for your refrigerator filter’s exact location before continuing with these steps:
- Detach the old filter cartridge by giving it a one-quarter turn in a counter-clockwise direction and pulling it out.
- Remove the new filter from its package and take off the plastic caps.
- Insert the new filter into the filter compartment and turn clockwise until it’s secure.
- Press and hold the filter reset button for 5 seconds to reset the filtration monitor
- Discard the first full batch of ice and the first several glasses of water to ensure that the water lines are cleared.
